Recognition of secondary education for deaf people
Year of support:
2015 - 2016
Approximately 40 deaf young people graduated from basic education, many of them in vulnerable condition and coming from the different common areas of the Metropolitan Region.
The Institute of Deafness (Indesor) is a nonprofit Private Law Corporation. It was founded by Dr. Jorge Otte Gabler in 1957 with the objective of providing education and job training to young deaf people who, until then, did not receive any attention. In its more than 50 years of existence, Corporación Indesor has fought for the integral development of Deaf people. Over the years they have become obligatory references for other civil, governmental, public and private institutions that work with the deaf community.
The general objective of the project supported by the Colunga Strengthening Fund, between 2015 and 2016, is to achieve the recognition of secondary education for Deaf people in Chile, under a bilingual intercultural approach.
