The project "Integral System for the Evaluation of Parental Practices", one of the winners of the Colunga 2018 Strengthening Fund, seeks to guide the family intervention carried out by the professional teams of the Sename residences towards a more effective one.
The diagnosis raised by Ideas for Children Foundation highlights the shortcomings in the quality of family assessments and therefore in the design of interventions, in addition to the lack of well-founded and agreed technical criteria that guide the family assessment processes. His proposal then is to develop and validate a system that integrates instruments that capture the perspective of families, children / as and professional teams, especially in the area of parental skills.
"Child participation matters to us because sometimes all the discussions surrounding the protection system issue do not involve children. They have a lot to say because they are directly affected by parental behavior, " María Paz Badilla, Executive Director of Fundación Ideas Para la Infancia.
This system will incorporate the Positive Parenthood Scale, created by the foundation in 2013 and aimed at families; the Infantile Parental Assessment Scale, aimed at children between 6 and 17 years old, and the Scale for Professionals. "In addition, we want to create a computer support platform for the registration and crossing of information. The idea is that these three instruments guide the professional to interpret the results and on the other hand raise the main needs that families have to be supported, "says María Paz.
The project involves the formation of 150 technical leaders that accompany the implementation of the system, whose pilot would be carried out in Antofagasta, Concepción, Puerto Montt and the regions of Valparaíso, Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins and Metropolitana.
"We want to build common languages around the evaluation of parental competences and that the processes stop being mediated by the level of specialization that each team has", concludes María Paz.
